COACHING

The ARA presented the 2003 National Coach of the Year Awards at the ARA annual Coaches conference held over the weekend of 24/25 January at the Warwick Conference centre. The winners; Colin Bullock, Ian Taylor, Charles Green and Jim MacCartney were guests of honour at the award dinner where they were presented with these prestigious awards in recognition of the significant impact their coaching has made over the past year.

‘The quality of the nominations and the richness of their achievements was again outstanding and reflects the wealth of great coaching that is going on across the breadth of our sport. The awards have been a great opportunity to recognise the, often unsung, hero’s behind our successes’, said Chairman of the ARA Coaching Committee, Terry Dillon.

ARA junior performance coach of the year goes to Charles Green of Royal Chester RC. Charles has developed a comprehensive coaching team at Royal Chester, whose junior section is now one most successful in the country. In 2003 Green has taken athletes to GB selection including the GB Junior World Championships and Couple de la Jeunesse.

Please join us in congratulating Matthew Hackett from The King's School Chester on being awarded ARA Junior Coach of the Year 2002.

This is great news for Matthew and King's of course, but also for our region as it is always good to see success being recognised in the frozen north!  Our Coaching Commission have a video-analysis event planned with Matthew in the New Year so anyone who doesn't know him already can meet him there!
